A kid from Oildale

I grew up in a mobile home in Oildale, and I say that with pride, not a caveat. I went to Beardsley schools, graduated from North High, and I wouldn't trade that upbringing for a fancier one. My mom worked hard and sacrificed a lot to give us a good childhood, and she pulled it off on not very much. That's where my work ethic comes from, and I still outwork every problem I'm handed.

The rest was classic north-of-the-river Bakersfield: NOR baseball every season, and those fields taught me more than a few life lessons. Friday nights at Rollerama. A movie at the old Crest Drive-In before it closed. And like every family here, we had our ways of beating the heat: an afternoon in the AC at Valley Plaza or the old East Hills Mall, the public pool, or loading up for Pismo Beach when it got bad enough.

Here's the part that shapes how I work now. That mobile home didn't have air conditioning, just a swamp cooler against 105 degrees. So when I say I know what a valley summer does to a house, and to the people inside it, I lived it. I came up hardworking and without much to spare, which is exactly why I won't pad your quote or sell you something you don't need. I know what that money means.

Into the trade

I've been in HVAC since 2010, and my path through it is a little unusual: I worked both sides. Years with local contractors, and years on the utility efficiency-program side too, in leadership and operations. That second seat is the one most technicians never sit in. It's where you see the standards, the audits, and what a job done right looks like on paper, not just what you can get away with in someone's attic. I'm EPA 608 certified, and Wildflower runs under California contractors license #1147883.

Why I run it this way

I started Wildflower because I got tired of watching how the trade treats people. I've seen too many contractors overcharge, and worse, sell someone a job and not deliver what they actually paid for. To me that's not a pricing problem, it's a leadership problem, and bad leadership rolls downhill into the customer's living room. So Wildflower is my correction: technicians who earn no commission, so nobody's diagnosis gets padded to hit a number; prices published on this website before we ever knock on your door; and work I'd be fine having audited. About 60% of the systems we're called in to replace turn out to need a repair instead, and we say so.

Growing up the way I did means a few things aren't abstract to me.
