Call ten HVAC companies in Bakersfield and ask what a capacitor replacement costs. Most will not tell you over the phone. You will hear that it depends, that a technician has to see it, that pricing is custom. Some of that is real. Most of it is a business model.

Why the number stays hidden. A price you cannot look up in advance is a price that can be set in the moment.
